Ghazi Al-Nafisi, Chairman of Al-Salehiya Real Estate Company, emphasized that Kuwait possesses all the capabilities to advance tourism, but lacks the will and seriousness to implement it. He added that many studies and visions have remained in the dark, and that the time has come to move from wishful thinking to a concrete action plan with private sector participation.
In an interview with the Al-Qabas Economic Program, hosted by Hawra Ghaleb, Al-Nafisi said that Kuwait was ahead of others in its interest in tourism. In 2003, the Ministry of Information asked the United Nations to prepare a comprehensive study on the country's tourism sector. He explained that "hotel owners, including myself," participated in this study and provided all the necessary statistics and information. In 2005, the results were submitted to the Council of Ministers and officially approved. But ironically, they remained locked away in drawers, as if no one wanted to bring them to light.
